Production Director - Jim Snell, Musical Director - John
Edwards.
The title
song of this magical musical was written by Arthur Freed &
Nacio Herb Brown as long ago as the 1920’s, being written
for "The Hollywood Revue of 1929" - one of the silver
screen’s first all-talking spectacles. Since then, it has
appeared in no fewer than six movies. It was the title tune
for the celebrated 1952 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film musical
which starred Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds
and Jean Hagen. It was not until 30 June 1983, that the
first staged production was seen, which starring Tommy
Steele immediately became a smash hit. With seven musical
pieces from the original film and additional classic
material from a host of well-known sources, the musical
score is powerful.
